Artist Bio:
The Velvelettes were an American girl group formed in Detroit, Michigan in the early 1960s. They were signed to Motown's VIP label and were best known for their hit single "Needle in a Haystack," which was released in 1964 and reached the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The group's lineup consisted of Bertha Barbee-McNeal, Norma Barbee, Mildred Gill-Arthur, Carolyn Gill, and Betty Kelly.
The Velvelettes' music style was a mix of doo-wop, R&B, and soul, and they were known for their energetic performances and harmonious vocals. Despite not achieving the same level of commercial success as some of their Motown labelmates, The Velvelettes were respected for their talent and contribution to the music scene of the 1960s. They continued to perform and record music throughout the years, with occasional lineup changes, and their music has remained popular with fans of Motown and 1960s girl groups.
