The Venetians were an Australian band formed in 1982 in Sydney. The band was led by vocalist and keyboardist Rik Swinn and guitarist Matthew Hughes. They gained popularity in the 1980s with their New Wave and Synthpop sound. The Venetians achieved commercial success with their debut single "Sound on Sound" in 1984, which reached the top 20 on the Australian charts.
The band released several albums throughout the 1980s, including their self-titled debut album in 1986 and "Calling in the Lions" in 1989. The Venetians disbanded in the early 1990s but reunited for occasional performances in later years. Their music is characterized by catchy melodies, electronic beats, and Swinn's distinctive vocals.
