Artist Bio:
The Village Stompers were an American folk and jazz group formed in Greenwich Village, New York City in 1960. The group's music was characterized by its use of traditional folk instruments such as the banjo, tuba, and washboard, giving their sound a distinctive and lively quality. They achieved commercial success with their instrumental hit single "Washington Square" in 1963, which reached the top ten on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

The Village Stompers continued to release albums and perform throughout the 1960s, gaining a following for their upbeat and infectious music. While they never replicated the success of "Washington Square," the group remained active in the music scene until the early 1970s. Their unique blend of folk and jazz influences helped to define the sound of the Greenwich Village music scene during the early 1960s.
