The group was led by Richard Lewis Spencer and included members Ray Maritano, Phil Tolotta, Greg Cheadle, Sonny Peckrol, and G.C. Coleman. They are best known for their hit single "Color Him Father" and their breakbeat track "Amen Brother," which became one of the most sampled drum breaks in music history. The Winstons disbanded in the early 1970s, but their music continues to be influential in the genres of soul, funk, and hip-hop.
