Artist Bio:
The Winstons were an American soul and funk group formed in the 1960s. They are best known for their 1969 single "Color Him Father," which reached number seven on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and won a Grammy Award for Best R&B Song. The song was a tribute to the drummer G.C. Coleman's stepfather.
Despite their success with "Color Him Father," The Winstons struggled to replicate its commercial success with subsequent releases. The group disbanded in the early 1970s, but their single "Amen Brother" became one of the most sampled tracks in the history of hip-hop and electronic music, particularly for its distinctive drum break. The Winstons' impact on music history extends far beyond their brief time together, as their drum break from "Amen Brother" became the foundation of countless songs in various genres.
