The Womenfolk was an American folk music group formed in the early 1960s. The group consisted of five women singers who performed traditional folk songs as well as contemporary tunes. They gained popularity for their tight harmonies and engaging stage presence, performing on popular TV shows such as "The Ed Sullivan Show" and "Hootenanny."
The Womenfolk released several albums during the 1960s, including their self-titled debut album in 1964. Their music often featured acoustic instrumentation such as guitars, banjos, and harmonicas, and their repertoire ranged from protest songs to lighthearted folk tunes. Despite their success, the group disbanded in the late 1960s as musical tastes shifted. The Womenfolk left a lasting impact on the folk music scene of the era and are remembered for their contributions to the genre.
