Three Dog Night is an American rock band that was formed in 1967. The band's name comes from an Australian Aboriginal custom of sleeping with a dog for warmth on cold nights. They achieved commercial success in the late 1960s and 1970s with a string of hit songs, including "Joy to the World," "Mama Told Me (Not to Come)," and "Black and White."
Three Dog Night was known for their three-part harmonies and their ability to cover a wide range of musical styles, including rock, pop, and R&B. The band had a total of 21 Billboard Top 40 hits and sold over 40 million records worldwide. They were inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 2000.
