Timothy B. Schmit is an American musician, singer, and songwriter best known for his work as the bassist and vocalist for the rock bands Poco and the Eagles. He was born on October 30, 1947, in Oakland, California. Schmit joined Poco in 1969 and was a member of the band during their most commercially successful period in the 1970s.
In 1977, Schmit joined the Eagles, replacing founding member Randy Meisner. He contributed vocals and bass guitar to the band's albums, including the hit singles "I Can't Tell You Why" and "Love Will Keep Us Alive." Schmit was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of the Eagles in 1998. He continues to perform and record music as a solo artist and occasionally collaborates with his former bandmates.
