Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers were an American rock band formed in 1976. The band consisted of Tom Petty (lead vocals, guitar), Mike Campbell (lead guitar), Benmont Tench (keyboards), Ron Blair (bass guitar), and Stan Lynch (drums). They were known for their roots rock sound, with influences of country and blues, and gained popularity for their catchy melodies and Petty's distinctive vocals.
Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers released numerous hit songs, including "American Girl," "Refugee," "Free Fallin'," and "Mary Jane's Last Dance." They achieved commercial success with albums like "Damn the Torpedoes" and "Full Moon Fever." Over their career, they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2002 and received multiple Grammy Award nominations. Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers were known for their energetic live performances and continued to tour and release music until Petty's death in 2017.
