Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers were an American rock band formed in 1976 in Gainesville, Florida. The band was led by singer-songwriter and guitarist Tom Petty, who was known for his distinctive voice and catchy, melodic songs. The Heartbreakers consisted of Mike Campbell (guitar), Benmont Tench (keyboards), Ron Blair (bass), and Stan Lynch (drums).
Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers released their self-titled debut album in 1976, which included the hit single "Breakdown." Over the years, the band achieved great success with albums such as "Damn the Torpedoes" (1979), "Full Moon Fever" (1989), and "Into the Great Wide Open" (1991). They were known for their energetic live performances and were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2002. Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers continued to tour and record music until Tom Petty's untimely death in 2017.
