Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers were an American rock band formed in 1976 in Gainesville, Florida. The band was led by singer-songwriter and guitarist Tom Petty, who was known for his distinctive vocals and timeless songwriting. The Heartbreakers consisted of Mike Campbell on guitar, Benmont Tench on keyboards, Ron Blair on bass, and Stan Lynch on drums.


The band gained mainstream success with hits such as "American Girl," "Refugee," and "Free Fallin'." Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers released several critically acclaimed albums throughout their career, including "Damn the Torpedoes" and "Full Moon Fever." They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2002.
