Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers were an American rock band formed in 1976 in Gainesville, Florida. The band was led by singer-songwriter Tom Petty, known for his distinctive vocals and catchy, guitar-driven rock songs. The original lineup of the Heartbreakers included Mike Campbell on lead guitar, Benmont Tench on keyboards, Ron Blair on bass, and Stan Lynch on drums.
Over the years, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers released a string of successful albums, including their self-titled debut in 1976, "Damn the Torpedoes" in 1979, and "Full Moon Fever" in 1989. Some of their most famous songs include "American Girl," "Refugee," "Free Fallin'," and "I Won't Back Down." The band was known for their energetic live performances and enduring popularity, with Tom Petty often cited as one of the greatest rock songwriters of his generation. Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2002.
