Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers were an American rock band formed in 1976 in Gainesville, Florida. The band's most prominent lineup consisted of Tom Petty (lead vocals, guitar, keyboards), Mike Campbell (guitar), Benmont Tench (keyboards), Ron Blair (bass), and Stan Lynch (drums). Known for their roots rock sound, the band achieved great commercial success with hits like "American Girl," "Refugee," and "Free Fallin'."


Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers released several critically acclaimed albums throughout their career, including their self-titled debut album in 1976, "Damn the Torpedoes" in 1979, and "Into the Great Wide Open" in 1991. They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2002. Tom Petty's distinctive voice and songwriting, combined with the Heartbreakers' tight musicianship, cemented their legacy as one of the most enduring and influential bands in rock history. Tom Petty passed away in 2017, but the band's music continues to be celebrated by fans worldwide.
