Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers were an American rock band formed in 1976 in Gainesville, Florida. The band consisted of Tom Petty (lead vocalist and guitarist), Mike Campbell (lead guitarist), Benmont Tench (keyboardist), Ron Blair (bassist), and Stan Lynch (drummer). They were known for their blend of rock, pop, and country music, and their hits included "Free Fallin'," "American Girl," and "Refugee."


Throughout their career, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers released 13 studio albums, with their self-titled debut album in 1976 and "Damn the Torpedoes" in 1979 being among their most successful. They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2002. Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers were known for their energetic live performances and their enduring influence on rock music. Tom Petty tragically passed away in 2017, but the band's music continues to be celebrated and enjoyed by fans worldwide.
