He was best known as the lead vocalist of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, a rock band formed in 1976. The band gained widespread success with hits such as "American Girl," "Refugee," and "Free Fallin'."
In addition to his work with the Heartbreakers, Tom Petty also had a successful solo career and was a member of the supergroup The Traveling Wilburys. Throughout his career, Petty received multiple Grammy Awards and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2002. He was known for his distinctive voice, honest songwriting, and energetic live performances. Tom Petty passed away on October 2, 2017, leaving behind a legacy as one of the most iconic figures in American rock music.
