James is best known as the leader of the band Tommy James and the Shondells, which he formed in the early 1960s. The band's hits include "Hanky Panky," "Mony Mony," and "Crimson and Clover."


Tommy James and the Shondells had a string of successful singles in the late 1960s and early 1970s, achieving multiple gold records and earning a reputation for their catchy melodies and energetic performances. James continued to have a successful solo career after the band broke up in the early 1970s, releasing several albums and singles.
