Tommy James and the Shondells were an American rock band formed in Niles, Michigan in 1959. The band's lead singer and songwriter was Tommy James, who also played guitar. The Shondells were the backing band for James, and together they achieved success in the 1960s with a string of hits.
One of their most famous songs is "Mony Mony," which reached number 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1968. They also had other hits such as "Crimson and Clover" and "I Think We're Alone Now." The band disbanded in 1970, but Tommy James continued to have a successful solo career. Tommy James and the Shondells were inducted into the Michigan Rock and Roll Legends Hall of Fame in 2010.
