Tommy James is an American musician and singer-songwriter born Thomas Gregory Jackson on April 29, 1947, in Dayton, Ohio. He is best known as the leader of the rock band Tommy James and the Shondells, which formed in the 1960s. The band achieved mainstream success with hits like "Hanky Panky," "Mony Mony," and "Crimson and Clover."


Tommy James and the Shondells were one of the most successful pop-rock acts of the era, with multiple Top 40 hits and a significant influence on the sound of the 1960s. Tommy James continued to have a successful solo career after the band's breakup, releasing several albums and singles. In addition to his musical accomplishments, Tommy James has also written an autobiography titled "Me, the Mob, and the Music," detailing his experiences in the music industry.
