Toni Basil is an American singer, actress, choreographer, and director, born on September 22, 1943, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She is best known for her hit single "Mickey" released in 1982, which peaked at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Basil started her career as a choreographer in the 1960s, working with various artists such as David Bowie and Tina Turner, and even choreographing the dance scenes in the movie "American Graffiti."


In addition to her music career, Basil has also appeared in several films and television shows, including portraying the role of a cheerleader in the movie "Easy Rider" and guest-starring in TV series like "Laverne & Shirley" and "Miami Vice." She is considered a pioneer in the music video industry, having directed music videos for artists such as Talking Heads and the B-52's. Throughout her career, Toni Basil has been recognized for her contributions to the entertainment industry and continues to be a respected figure in the music and dance world.
