He started his music career in the 1960s as a member of the group The Five Crowns before embarking on a successful solo career. Davis is best known for his hits in the 1970s, including "Can I Change My Mind" and "Turn Back the Hands of Time," which both reached the top of the Billboard R&B charts. His smooth and soulful voice earned him the nickname "The King of Romantic Soul."
Throughout his career, Davis released over 20 albums and had numerous chart-topping singles. He continued to perform and record music until his death on February 9, 2005, in Hinsdale, Illinois.
