Valerie Simpson is an American singer-songwriter and half of the legendary R&B duo Ashford & Simpson. She was born on August 26, 1946, in the Bronx, New York. Simpson began her music career in the 1960s as a session singer, and in 1964, she met Nickolas Ashford. The two went on to become a successful songwriting and performing duo, releasing hits such as "Ain't No Mountain High Enough" and "Solid."


In addition to her work with Ashford, Valerie Simpson has released solo albums and continued to write songs for other artists. She has received various accolades for her contributions to the music industry, including induction into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2002. Simpson is known for her soulful voice, powerful songwriting, and enduring impact on the R&B music genre.
