Van Halen was an American rock band formed in Pasadena, California in 1972. The band was led by guitarist Eddie Van Halen, along with his brother, drummer Alex Van Halen. The original lineup also included vocalist David Lee Roth and bassist Michael Anthony. Van Halen is known for their energetic live performances and innovative guitar work by Eddie Van Halen, who is often regarded as one of the greatest guitarists in the history of rock music.
The band achieved significant commercial success with their self-titled debut album in 1978, which featured the hit singles "Runnin' with the Devil" and a cover of The Kinks' "You Really Got Me." Van Halen went on to release several more successful albums, with classic songs like "Jump," "Panama," and "Hot for Teacher." The band underwent various lineup changes over the years, with Eddie Van Halen being the only constant member until his death in 2020. Van Halen was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2007.
