Van Halen was an American rock band formed in Pasadena, California in 1972. The band's original lineup consisted of brothers Eddie Van Halen on guitar and Alex Van Halen on drums, along with David Lee Roth on vocals and Michael Anthony on bass. Van Halen is known for their energetic live performances and innovative guitar work by Eddie Van Halen, who is considered one of the greatest guitarists in rock history. The band achieved tremendous success with hit songs such as "Jump," "Panama," and "Hot for Teacher."


Van Halen released several multi-platinum albums throughout the 1980s, including their self-titled debut album in 1978, which is widely regarded as one of the greatest debut albums in rock history. The band has sold over 80 million records worldwide and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2007. Despite lineup changes and internal tensions over the years, Van Halen remained a prominent and influential force in rock music until their disbandment in 2020.
