Was (Not Was) is an American pop rock group founded by David Weiss and Don Fagenson, also known as David Was and Don Was, respectively. The group was formed in Detroit, Michigan in 1979. Was (Not Was) gained popularity in the 1980s with their unique blend of pop, rock, funk, and dance music. Their music is known for its quirky lyrics, eclectic style, and incorporation of various musical genres.


The group released several albums throughout the 1980s and 1990s, with their most successful album being "What Up, Dog?" released in 1988. Their hit singles include "Walk the Dinosaur" and "Spy in the House of Love." Was (Not Was) has worked with a variety of musicians and artists over the years, including Ozzy Osbourne, Leonard Cohen, and Aretha Franklin. Despite going on hiatus at times, the group has continued to perform and release music sporadically over the years.
