Artist Bio:
Wes Montgomery (1923-1968) was an influential American jazz guitarist known for his distinctive playing style and innovative approach to the instrument. He was born in Indianapolis, Indiana, and began playing guitar at a young age, largely self-taught by listening to records. Montgomery gained recognition in the jazz world during the 1950s and 1960s, with his unique technique of playing with his thumb rather than a pick, creating a warm, mellow sound that set him apart from other guitarists of his time.

Montgomery recorded numerous albums as a leader and as a sideman, including the critically acclaimed "The Incredible Jazz Guitar of Wes Montgomery" and "Smokin' at the Half Note." He is regarded as one of the greatest jazz guitarists of all time, known for his virtuosic improvisation skills, soulful playing, and ability to blend elements of bebop, blues, and swing into his music. Wes Montgomery's legacy continues to inspire and influence generations of jazz musicians to this day.
