Wild Cherry was an American funk rock band formed in 1970 in Ohio. The band is best known for their hit single "Play That Funky Music," released in 1976. The song reached the top of the charts in the United States and around the world, earning the band a Grammy Award nomination. Wild Cherry's self-titled debut album, released in 1976, also included other popular tracks like "Baby Don't You Know" and "Hold On."
Despite the success of "Play That Funky Music," Wild Cherry struggled to replicate its commercial success with subsequent releases. The band disbanded in the early 1980s after releasing a total of three albums. Wild Cherry's legacy lives on through their iconic hit single, which continues to be a popular choice for parties, weddings, and other events.
