Pickett gained fame in the 1960s with hits such as "In the Midnight Hour," "Mustang Sally," and "Land of 1000 Dances." Known for his powerful, raw voice and energetic stage presence, Pickett was often referred to as the "Wicked Pickett" or the "Midnight Mover."
Pickett was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1991 for his contributions to the music industry. He was also a pioneer of the soul music genre, blending R&B, gospel, and rock influences in his music.
