Wilson Pickett was an American R&B and soul singer who gained fame in the 1960s and 1970s. Born on March 18, 1941, in Prattville, Alabama, Pickett is known for his powerful vocals and energetic stage presence. He was a major figure in the development of soul music, with hits such as "In the Midnight Hour," "Land of 1000 Dances," and "Mustang Sally."


Pickett was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1991 and the Alabama Music Hall of Fame in 1999. He had a string of successful singles and albums throughout his career, and his music continues to be influential in the world of soul and R&B. Wilson Pickett passed away on January 19, 2006, leaving behind a legacy as one of the great voices of soul music.
