Wilson Pickett was an American singer and songwriter known for his soulful and energetic performances. He was born on March 18, 1941, in Prattville, Alabama, and grew up singing in gospel groups. Pickett gained fame in the 1960s as a major figure in the development of soul music, with hits such as "In the Midnight Hour," "Mustang Sally," and "Land of 1000 Dances." His powerful voice and dynamic stage presence made him a popular performer, earning him the nickname "The Wicked Pickett."


Pickett was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1991 and was known for his influence on later generations of musicians. He passed away on January 19, 2006, but his music continues to be celebrated and enjoyed by fans of soul and R&B music around the world.
