She initially gained fame as a member of the girl group The Chantels in the 1960s before pursuing a solo career. Fair signed with Motown Records in the early 1970s and released her debut solo album, "The Bitch is Black," in 1975. The album featured the hit single "It Should Have Been Me," which became one of her most well-known songs.
Fair's powerful voice and energetic stage presence earned her a reputation as a dynamic performer. She continued to record music and perform throughout the 1970s and 1980s, collaborating with artists such as Smokey Robinson and Marvin Gaye. Fair passed away on March 6, 1994, but her music continues to be celebrated by fans of soul and R&B music.
